The "new direction" in Iraq

Wherever you go these days (in the corporate media, that is), there's reference to the "new direction" that George Bush is preparing in Iraq. What complete and utter spin. Adding 20,000 troops to 140,000 constitutes a "tweak," not a "new direction." Replacing one general with another, or one defense secretary with another, is an "adjustment," not a "new direction."

There's only one possible "new direction" in Iraq. And that's out. And that's a direction that neither George Bush, nor the Democrat-controlled Congress, is going to take willingly. Which means that those of us opposed to this war still have a lot of work to do.

There's a national demonstration in Washington (and elsewhere) on January 27, and another, which shows signs of being a major demonstration, on March 17. Start planning now to be there (or to organize or join a demonstration in your own area).
